As the name implies, the charge of minor in possession of alcohol can occur if a police officer has proof that a person under the age of 21, in most areas, has consumed alcohol or has possession of alcohol. This age can vary from state to state and as a misdemeanor each state sets its own fines and definitions of the charge.

Minor In Possession Of Alcohol Penalties
Since minors are the only individuals that can be found guilty of the minor in possession of alcohol charges, the first time penalties tend to be more focused on education and correction rather than severe punishment. Subsequent charges will have progressively harsher penalties.

often couples the consequences of allowing already immature teens to have even less control because of alcohol consumption. Traffic accidents, rape, theft, vandalism, and other dangerous behavior all raise when alcohol is abused by teenagers. That is why some states, far from weakening their penalties for underage alcohol consumption, are increasing them. They are also imposing harsh penalties for parents who sanction the use of alcohol for minors.

    Underage Alcohol Consumption Penalties
Federal law states that the legal age for obtaining and possessing alcohol is 21 throughout the country. States have the responsibility of determining penalties for young people who break that law. In most states, the offender is taken to juvenile court and the judge may impose any of several penalties.
